The name is Duke…..@DukeofPeckham …….Ok, ok it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it but we’re all allowed to live our fantasies aren’t we? But since I can’t live mine as 007 Agent James Bond, I’ll just have to watch his movies instead.
So whats Spectre all about? This is the culmination of the previous three Daniel Craig Bond movies. If you’ve seen Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall then you’ll notice the running theme. Wherever Bond goes, bad things happen and usually those closest to him are killed, well in Spectre we find out the protagonists behind it all and I wasn’t disappointed with the story.
The running time is 2 hours and 28 minutes which is a hell of a long time to sit in a seat watching Bond and unfortunately the film didn’t grab me visually like Casino Royale to keep my eyes glued. A lot of the scenes could have easily of been cut, perhaps even taking it down to 2 hours but it seemed Sony/MGM had money to play with and decided to go all out.
When I heard Monica Belluci was to be a Bond girl in Spectre I thought “brilliant, she’ll bring some seduction to the film” but like the other Bond girls in the Daniel Craig series, she was largely forgettable, I mean blink and you missed her part and this is a running theme in the recent films. Eva Green in Casino Royale is the only memorable Bond girl from the previous three films as she was relevant to the story and the man Bond becomes but after her can you remember any Bond girl who was in Quantum or Skyfall?
Lea Seydoux plays the part of the latest woman to fall for 007’s charms but to be perfectly honest she didn’t need to be in the film for longer than 10 minutes and that’s just to give up her intel and have her adult relations with James.
I know on the whole this review sounds like I hated it but I honestly enjoyed it and would happily buy it on Blu-Ray, but part of me hopes this isn’t the last Bond film for Daniel Craig whose resurrected the 007 franchise from the abyss where Pierce Brosnan let it sink to with The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day (invisible car…..really???) but overall, I liked it and its honestly made me think about buying the complete collection Daniel Craig’s 007 movies which is a huge compliment to him because I absolutely HATED Quantum of Solace.
Its not important to have seen the previous three movies but it helps and out of five I would give it…….
